The H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds MEGA Cool

H. Moser & Cie. revisits its Pioneer Centre Seconds in a MEGA cool version, a seductive cocktail of stainless steel and the brand’s gorgeous Blue Lagoon fumé dial.  Designed to evoke the tempting turquoise waters of an island paradise, the Pioneer Centre Seconds is the promise of better times ahead and even an exotic summer holiday miles removed from confinement.

The Pioneer Centre Seconds MEGA Cool in steel is the brand’s entry-level model and now comes with a Blue Lagoon dial. Like so many Moser dials, the Blue Lagoon is a fumé dial with a sunray-brushed pattern and strap combination in a very attractive shade of greenish-blue. As we’ve covered before, the Pioneer Centre Seconds embraces the sportier side of H. Moser & Cie. and offers a more sculpted modern design, at least for the case. It is also the largest watch in the current line-up, with a 42.8mm diameter and a height of 15mm.

This dial colour is known as Blue Lagoon, and you can see why. The greenish-blue tone is reminiscent of tropical waters. Combine that with a matching kevlar strap, and you have a cool new look. The ‘COOL’ part of the watch’s name was supposedly overheard when someone in the manufacture spotted the prototype… and that name should be pronounced in Swiss German.

The Pioneer collection was intended as a range of watches, in both gold and steel, that would offer a sportier take on what H. Moser & Cie. is known for. Smoked dials, elegant shapes and great finishing. The Pioneer case has beefier lugs and cut-outs on the caseband. These are more pronounced than the concave shapes of the Endeavour, to put things in perspective. Yet, despite the differences, the brand does not cut corners in execution. Also, note that this model has new hands, which are now shaped like those found on the Streamliner models. They are made from two sections and feature Globolight inserts, an innovative ceramic-based material that contains Super-LumiNova. Also, the logo is printed with translucent material and appears only very discreetly on the dial.

On the technical side, things remain the same. The calibre HMC 200, an automatic movement with a three-day power reserve, is designed, developed and manufactured in-house. A sapphire caseback allows a full view of the movement and its large rotor.

The H. Moser & Cie. Pioneer Centre Seconds MEGA Cool comes on a green kevlar strap, a rubber strap or alligator leather straps, as well as a steel bracelet. The watch will retail for CHF 13,900.
