At long last, Netflix’s long-awaited Addams Family series, “Wednesday,” has arrived. The Jenna Ortega-led show premiered on the streamer on Nov. 23, finally allowing viewers to enter into the modernized spooky world of the classic phenomenon. And in celebration of its debut, some of the “Wednesday” cast members — including Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay) and Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair) — shared silly behind-the-scenes photos on Instagram that they took while filming the show.
“Wednesday” is a reimagined take on the iconic Addams Family member from the franchise. A long way from what started as a cartoon in 1938, the coming-of-age live-action series follows Ortega’s Wednesday — the gothic, death-obsessed teen — as a student at Nevermore Academy, where she, per Netflix, attempts to “master her emerging psychic ability,” “thwart a monstrous killing spree” plaguing her town, and, oh yeah, “solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago.”
Ortega recalled her experience stepping into her Wednesday role in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum, revealing that she almost passed up the opportunity to stick to film projects over TV. “But when you’re approached with a character like this, and a director like this, and a story like this, it’s very compelling,” she said. “You don’t know when you’re going to get the opportunity to do something like that again. I knew that I just had to take it.”
